Από καιρό η atenistas act, η ομάδα επεμβάσεών μας, έψαχνε στο κέντρο της Αθήνας για την επόμενη ενέργειά της. Στην αναζήτησή αυτή προσέξαμε τον μικρό πεζόδρομο Αξαρλιάν (Λέκκα) κάτω απ’ το Σύνταγμα, ένα πραγματικά όμορφο σημείο που αδικείται κυρίως από την χρήση του σαν σημείο παρκαρίσματος μηχανών αλλά και από την γενικότερη έλλειψη φροντίδας.
Έτσι συζητώντας τις ανάγκες του πεζοδρόμου και πως θα το θέλανε οι ίδιοι οι περίοικοι αποφασίσαμε να δράσουμε. Σκοπός μας να ενισχύσουμε το πράσινο στηριζόμενοι στην ιδέα ένος κήπου με μεσογειακά φυτά, προσθέτοντας και σημεία ανάπαυσης που θα λειτουργούσαν συν τοις άλλοις και αποτρεπτικά στο παρκάρισμα.
Έτσι τη Κυριακή 15 Μαΐου από τις 10 το πρωί και για 6 ώρες προσδώσαμε στον πεζόδρομο μια αίσθηση μεσογειακού κήπου. Δεκατρία είδη μεσογειακών φυτών ανάμεσα τους ρίγανη, ματζουράνα, λεβάντα, σπάρτο, δυόσμος κ.α. φυτεύτηκαν στα παρτέρια, επιπλέον χώμα και φραχτάκια προστέθηκαν ενώ τα παρτέρια και όλες οι ζαρντινιέρες βάφτηκαν. Χειροποίητες ταμπέλες σήμανσης για το είδος του κάθε φυτού τοποθετήθηκαν (είτε καρφώθηκαν στους στηρικτικούς πασάλους είτε δέθηκαν με σύρμα μη πληγώνοντας το δέντρο) ενώ τοποθετήθηκαν τρία παγκάκια σε ρομαντικό στυλ δίνοντας την αίσθηση της χαλάρωσης σε κήπο.
Η δράση αγκαλιάστηκε αμέσως από περιοίκους και περαστικούς που δείχνουν να απολαμβάνουν την αίσθηση του κήπου και της ανάπαυσης στη καρδιά του πολύβουου κέντρου. Ευχαριστούμε θερμά την "AXA Assistance" που προσέφερε τα υλικά της δράσης και την Χριστίνα, τον Κώστα και το Γιώργο από το ‘Christina Beautiful Life’ για το νερό, το ρεύμα και πάνω απ’ όλα τη θετική διάθεση.
A small Mediterranean garden in the heart of Athens
Atenistas act, our intervention group, was searching for a long time where to intervene in the city center. In its quest, we looked at the small pedestrian area in Axarlian (Lekka) street just under Syntagma square, a really beautiful spot which is undervalued because of its use as a parking area for motorcycles or the general lack of maintenance. Thus, taking into consideration the area’s needs and the neighbours’ wishes, we decided to act. Our goal was to enhance the greenery based on the idea of a garden with Mediterranean plants while adding rest spots which they also prevent the area used as parking.
So, on Sunday May 15th, since 10 am in the morning and for 6 hours, the pedestrian area was turned into a Mediterranean garden. 13 kind of Mediterranean plants like oregano,manjoran,lavender,sedge, spearmint etc. were planted in the flowerbeds, fences and soil were added and all the flowerpots/jardinières were painted. Handmade signs for labeling every kind of plant used, were installed (either were nailed in supporting poles or were bend with wire in order not to injure the trees) while three benches in romantic style were placed giving the feeling of relaxation in a garden. The intervention was welcomed from neignbours and passers-by that seemed to enjoying the feeling of a garden and relaxation in the heart of the noisy city centre.
