Ακριβώς πάνω στην Πειραιώς, στην γωνία απέναντι απ’ την Τεχνόπολη έστεκε χρόνια ένα σύνολο παρατημένων παραπηγμάτων, που 2 μήνες πριν γκρεμίσθηκε και ο χώρος απελευθερώθηκε. Στεκόμενοι στο σημείο -και στην αναζήτηση νέων επεμβάσεών μας- παρατηρήσαμε ότι όντας υψωμένο σε σχέση με την κεντρική λεωφόρο έχει το προνόμιο να απολαμβάνει μια ιδιαίτερη θέα προς την Τεχνόπολη και τις χαρακτηριστικές καμινάδες της, όσο και το ότι αποτελεί μια σπάνια συνθήκη ανοικτού ορίζοντα στην πόλη. Και τι ιδανικότερο να βάλουμε καθίσματα, ώστε κάτοικοι και το πλήθος επισκεπτών της περιοχής να μπορούν να βγουν στο Γκάζι χωρίς να χρειάζονται να πληρώσουν στα γύρω μαγαζιά, αλλά στον δημόσιο χώρο να περάσουν όμορφα με τους φίλους τους.
Έτσι το πρωί του Σαββάτου 19/3, δεκαπέντε άτομα βρεθήκαμε στον χώρο και ξεκινήσαμε την διαμόρφωση του χώρου με μια DIY (do it yourself - κάντο μόνος σου) λογική: Υλικά που υπάρχουν παρατημένα στην πόλη και πως με την φροντίδα μας και την χρωματική μας παρέμβαση θα μπορούσαμε να τα εντάξουμε ιδανικά σε ένα όμορφο και ξεχωριστό σύνολο. Και το ξεχωριστό ενίσχυσε και η επιλογή να χρησιμοποιήσουμε στον συρμάτινο φράκτη την τεχνική του "cuprocking", σφηνωμένα ποτήρια δηλαδή που παράγουν γραμμικά ψηφιδωτά, μια εικόνα που δεν υπάρχει πουθενά στην Αθήνα και απ’ ότι φάνηκε είναι πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα.
Αρχικά, ο χώρος καθαρίστηκε απ’ τα σκουπίδια που είχε αφήσει η κατεδάφιση, με την πλειοψηφία τους να είναι επικίνδυνα σπασμένα γυαλιά. Έπειτα τοποθετήθηκαν βαρέλια, γεμίζοντάς τα πέτρες για να σταθεροποιηθούν, σαν καθιστικά. Τον ίδιο ρόλο επιτέλεσαν και οι παλέτες που σε διάφορες συνθέσεις με μικρές πινελιές (πεταμένα κλαδιά και σκάλα στην πλάτη). Όσο για το φόντο στον φράκτη, η χρήση της τυπογραφίας και των συμβόλων έδωσε χαρακτήρα ξεχωριστό τόσο στο χώρο όσο και στην οδό Πειραιώς, μιας και είναι ορατά κι ακόμα πιο εντυπωσιακά με το φως του ήλιου κι από μεγάλη απόσταση.
Ένα ακόμα παρκάκι "diy" παραδόθηκε στην πόλη, ευελπιστούμε ότι ο πρώην κενός και χωρίς χρήση χώρος να αποκτήσει ζωή και όσοι πολλοί κατεβαίνουν Γκάζι να έχουν την δυνατότητα να καθίσουν με τους φίλους τους σ’έναν όμορφο χώρο χωρίς να χρειαστεί να πληρώσουν μια!
On Pireos street, on the corner across Technopolis, some shacks were standing for many years up until 2 months ago when they were demolished and the space freed up. When we stood there-while searching for new interventions-we noticed that it was higher than the boulevard thus enjoying the privilege of a unique view towards Technopolis -with its characteristic chimneys- and a rare condition of open horizon inside the city. What would be more ideal than to put some benches there so that the residents and the numerous visitors of the area could hang around in Gazi without having to pay at the cafés but instead were able to enjoy their time with their friends in a public place.
So, Saturday morning 19/3, 15 people gathered in the place and begun its formation on the basis of a DIY (do it yourself) park: Materials that already existed dumped in the city which we would transform, color and ideally integrate into a beautiful and special ensemble. What made it more special was the option to use the technique of cuprocking on the wire fence, by placing wedged plastic glasses that create linear mosaic, an image that doesn’t exist anywhere in Athens and looked quite interesting.
Initially we cleaned up the place from the garbage left by the demolition, most of them dangerous broken glasses. Then we placed barrels-filled with stones so as to stabilize them-as benches. We used pallets for the same reason, by placing them in different setings with small adjustments (branches and a staircase left around, on the back). As for the background of the fence, the use of typography and symbols gave special character both to the park and to Pireos street as they are visible and even more impressive with the sun light even from a great distance.
Another DIY park was delivered to the city in hope that a former void and useless space will come to life and that the many people who come to Gazi will have the opportunity to hang around with their friends in a beautiful place without having to pay a dime.
